Chris - First off - WELCOME to the forum. :)
You have raised a lot of very good questions and your timing in terms of when you expect to buy a vehicle that is capable of pulling some sort of RV is perfect. Your information is NOT unnecessary in the least. As a matter of fact many posters on this forum come on here, post their problem with not enough background and as a result so much time is wasted getting the background after the fact and after some folk have wasted a lot of their good time giving help only tp find out they were barking up the "wrong" tree.
That said I don't believe you mentioned whether or not you had tent camped before and what your feelings were on that in terms of noise, dealing with inclement weather, etc.
I am sure there are many here who were in a situation such as yours at one time - I certainly was and have gone though 2 RVs prior to my current one. That said I have never camped with a baby but I am sure there are lots of folks who have done it. Besides, in a year the baby would be a toddler and a completely different "challenge" (unless you get another one in the meantime).
I will have a look at some of the responses for now to see if anyone actually answers your questions. There will be lots of responses of so there will be lots of reading to do to sift the nuggets out.
That said I have a feeling that you should be looking at a pop-up given the tow vehicles you seem to be considering at this point. ;)
