I've seen lots of talk about the problem, but I haven't read anything about the fix.
My daughter has a 2004 Toyota Corolla that's part of the recall and has been part of what's become a real circus sideshow. First, the suspect airbag inflators were replaced last year. Then, a recall was issued to install a wiring harness containing an electrical 'noise' filter that connects to the airbag control module. Apparently Toyota still had airbags going off in cars that had inflators replaced. The theory is spurious electrical 'noise' from sources unknown causes a short in the module's chip that results in airbag and seatbelt tensioner activation (the seatbelt retractor assembly also has an 'explosive' charge in it to rapidly cinch the belts down when activated in a crash). And last month, yet another recall notice from Toyota, stating 'wait, the noise filter may not work either, so we're replacing the control module as soon as we have enough of them available for dealers'.
Toyota's got to get this right sooner or later, they're running out of parts to replace.........:M
