I think people tend to forget that the gas powered HD trucks are rated to tow well north of 12,500lbs in most configurations. Tossing a 3,000lb camper on the back doesn't exactly suck the life out of them. Yes the Diesel makes more power / torque but we are not exactly stressing the engines hauling truck campers.
The biggest thing you will need to live with is the mileage difference. Up here in Alaska I never have flat drives and we go 65 MPH, and I average about 9.5 MPG with my V10.
