Torque of itself has meaning in a static setting only, or potential. Horsepower includes torque in time.
You could have 10 million ft. lbs. of torque, but if no horsepower, then means nothing because it is not doing work in time, which we exist.
On top of this you can compare the different fuels, VE, rpm bands, rear gears, trannys, cost. And decide, what's in our wallet?
