With lack of choices with trucks - it is hard to compare, but lot of European cars have the same car available with diesel and gasoline engines.
Rough comparison - 3l (6 cylinders) diesel car due to higher starting torque will accelerate head to head with 5l (V8) gasoline model till about 100 mph.
Then the higher HP will take over higher torque and gasoline big engine will outbeat smaller diesel.
Diesels always beat hands down gasoline partner on 60-80 mph.
Gasoline cars are geared high for economy they lack due the principles, so don't accelerate much at 60 mph - so gasoline car needs to downshift couple of gears. That takes time even with best computers. In this time diesel - accelerating hard on overdrive is far ahead.
