I traded my 6.0 for the 6.4 F450 because I wanted better brakes, 19.5s, and overall a better camper hauler. I wouldn't say it was a practical move, but I like it unless it is empty. ;). But, I don't drive it empty much.
I think the math is probably a wash compared to the desire to have one or the other or as Northside puts it, smiles per gallon.
Driving the 6.0 was getting to be TOO nerve wracking. Only 104k on the clock, and every trip we were on edge for the slightest odd sound or black smoke.
$s aside, I just can relax now when driving.
BTW, 15 MPG empty bed and Leer topper on the 6.0.
And my new F-350 has huge payload capacity (6500#), awesome brakes, a STIFF frame and way too any steering wheel buttons.
