You can get the job done with a gasser. However the diesel is simply more relaxing and requires less work on my part.
What you save in $$ you gain in stress or shall I say driver input.
The exhaust brake makes descending hills much easier vs. coming down with a gasser.
I prefer to have the truck do the work vs. the driver doing the work.
I also prefer the increased fuel range of the diesel and the ability to fuel at truck stops vs. dealing with access issues at gas stations
You also need to examine the savings closely. Diesels tend to hold their value at resale vs.a gasser
