What you save in $$ you gain in stress or shall I say driver input.
The exhaust brake makes descending hills much easier vs. coming down with a gasser.
I prefer to have the truck do the work vs. the driver doing the work....
Lantley,
From your sig pic, I would wholeheartedly agree that a diesel is what you need. Compared to my old Ford 6.0 diesel , my stress level is sooooo much lower. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the newer Ford diesel engine despite it's sterling reviews.
Also, my payload is entirely in the bed. I don't foresee towing. The manual mode of the six speed tranny made descending Colorado mountain passes effortless.
Clearly we stress for different reasons.
Rick
Coming from a 6.0 I can see you not wanting any parts of a diesel.
I had a chance to buy a few nicely equipped 6.0 PSD trucks But I refused to be a part of the 6.0 debacle.
I chose a 7.3 PSD and my current Duramax in an effort to avoid the 6.0.
A 6.0 PSD is not your typical diesel experience, however I understand if you are leary of diesels after being involved with the 6.0 nightmare
