Lance truck campers used to all have one piece aluminium roof over marine plywood and you almost never hear about on of them leaking. We personally had 3 Lance's and never had any of them leak at all even 12 years old always outside and had never been recaulked at all. They were NOT any noisier in the rain than the Lance's that have the TPO outer roof as we have been in many of them in the rain. The new Lance's however with the Azdel sound absorbing panels that replaced the plywood under the outer roof are quite a bit quieter in the rain.
With the Aliminum being backed by plywood with foam insulation under the plywood, very little damage is done by hail according to our insurance adjuster who our insurance carrier sent to look at our 36' Carriage 5th wheel that took a tree falling and totaled it. He said he's seen many different RV's that had gone thur hail storms and the Lance roofs were always the least damaged by far. Our Carriage 5th wheel had a fiberglass roof but no RV roof would stop a big tree on it's way down.
