Converted ductless range hood to vented

Our trailer had a ductless range hood and the smoke alarm went off every time we used the stove. I told my wife we could buy a new range hood and she said, "don't buy a new one, just cut a hole in the back of this one and vent it outside. So I got a vent cap, and for 4 bucks the RV Parts store had a sheetmetal flange from the vent hood to the vent cap. I called the Chalet and they said cut a hole in the side wall and go for it. So I did. We'll test it in the morning.

  • I think Andy is saying that he has the Fantastic Fan blowing into the room, not venting. This way, the fumes at the stove are pushed out the window, as you pressurize the cabin. Of course, this won't work if your fan only goes in one direction, or if you have other windows open.

That said, it looks like you did a nice job on your vent. Thanks for sharing.
  • Ours has a fantastic fan a few feet from the hood, but it's close to the smoke alarm so it just pulled the exhaust right to the alarm..., the bathroom just has a plain single speed fan plus with a couple fans running it gets too loud for me.
  • We also had this issue but I figured out I could use my bathroom fantastic fan to blow out the stove top exhaust. I just crack the kitchen window which we always have cracked while parked at a campsite and I fire up the fan. I actually don't miss having to remember to fasten and unfasten the exterior flapper on the exhaust hood vent opening.
