I'd love for self driving to become a reality.
We have FSD on our model Y. It’s cool but definitely still a level 2, Does well on things like traffic circles, stop signs, stop lights, left turns and right turns etc. But if the lines on the road are worn off from snow plows etc, it struggles to stay in a lane etc. Definitely need to be ready to take over at any time, which of course is what a level 2 system is.
I would think within a year or two one might see it evolve to level 3 which is a little better. Level 4 or 5 autonomy is a ways off in my opinion. Right now we get a software update about every 2 weeks. Most times it’s better, sometimes not. :).
When towing our trailer FSD is disabled as soon as the trailer is connected to the 7 pin connector. You can still use TACC (traffic aware cruise control) and following distances are doubled. As well anti sway software is enabled which interacts with the brakes etc. Pretty cool. We use a Tekonsha P3 which is a good fit for the Tesla. Easy install. All pre-wired etc from tesla. You can see it thru the steering wheel on the left.
