I agree about the head gasket.
The test is called an "Combustion Leak test". NAPA stocks them, most shops have them on hand. The hard thing about an early leak, is they only leak under high load when hot, but you have to run the test in the shop with the radiator cap off, which means the engine might not be hot enough during the test.
