Cooper Discoverer HT3 or Firestone Transforce HT

I'm down to these two LT 245/75/R16s for my 5er. They are both the same on-line price. Discount recommends the Discoverer HT (and Cooper approves them for trailers) mainly cuz they don't stock the HT3. I would rather go one-better by going to the all steel HT3. I haven't been able to find out if the TransForce HT is all steel or not. Anyone know? If one is all steel and the other one isn't and they are the same price, I'd rather have all steel. Also, does anyone know which brand has the longest lasting rubber... sidewall cracking? TIA! Craig
  • Cooper commercial grade SRM II were dropped so I emailed Cooper to see which LT tire they recommended for my tri axle trailer with 5.2k axles

    Email to to Cooper Tire;
    I used several sets of SRM II LT235/85-16 E on my trailers after Cooper tech folks recommended them with great success. One triaxle trailer is due for new tires before winter but I don't see the the SRM II on your web. Question is which one of your highway tread LT235/85-16 E tires do you recommend for using on trailers now ?/ Thanks..... Jim

    Jim, the replacement for the SRM II tire is the Discoverer HT3 tire. This is an excellent tire for your trailer application. Thanks, Les.

    I've used the Firestone Transforce HT on other trailers and had no issues with them. Great tire for a heavy trailer.
  • Had the TransForce on our 5er and they were excellent. I do recommend them.
  • I think I would go with the Cooper. I've heard good things, and I just had a set of Firestone wear out to early, just running on Jeep Liberty.
