Costco Auto Program

Used it on the wife's traverse. Great experience and about $700 below lnvoice. Works as advertised. Chevy had a $1000 rebate at the time so the deal ended up $1700 below invoice

Costco and the other organizations offering a "car buying" program are simply leveraging their size and cutting themselves into a share of the auto sale. The dealer signs up for the program attempting to add incremental sales they might otherwise lose. Generally, there are some basic pricing guidelines the dealer will agree to and Costco {or others} receives a commission on the sale. The commission is an expense to the dealer and will be recovered in the selling price.

That's kind of what I was wondering. If you're good at haggling can you probably get as good a deal on your own as with Costco. Thanks.

When we bought our 2015.5 GMC sierra denali I went to our credit union buying service and Costco. Ended up with the credit union. slightly better price than Costco, but also much faster response in finding exactly what we wanted and getting it. I gave costco dealer sales guy and credit union what I wanted, which was not in any local lots but a few hundred miles away.

Interestingly the credit union and costco went through the SAME dealership. Costco through a regular sales guy, credit union through fleet sales.

I know others who used costco and were very satisifed. Had the costco dealer regular sales guy responded quicker I might have gone with Costco.

I don't like haggling, IMHO if you really want the very lowest price, willing to spend time haggling, going around dealing with sales guys you probably can beat Costco, etc.

If you want a very competitive price, no hassle, nice treatment, can't beat Costco or credit union car buying services.

I think it depends on the dealer. I just tried to use it and the dealer gave me a price that was 40 less than a price they had on their website it was not that great of a price to begin with. The dealer told me that it was rebates etc minus an additional x amount for Costco. The amount depended on the vehicle. I went out of the area and saved an additional 3000. Again I feel this may have had more to do with the authorized dealer than the program

I used it on my Ram a couple years ago and some friends have also used it. Overall, it's a good program that saves you a lot of hassle and time. Could you do better if you sat in the cubicle all day haggling? Maybe, maybe not.

It's like everything you buy at Costco - you're not going to get a bad deal for the most part. The worst you'll do is average. I'm looking at buying a car for my company soon and I'll be signing up for the program again once I decide what I'm getting.

I used it to buy a New Challenger SRT last year. The car is a hot seller and dealers wouldn't deal on them (actually let me walk).
I got the best deal using the Costco program.

Just about anything you can join has a vehicle purchasing program. I'm not sure one is better than another. I was a Costco member and tried their auto buying program. The closest dealer was too far away, so I used their price at another dealer. I got the price no problem.

I used it for my Polaris Ranger and saved some money, plus I got a discount on a certain dollar figure worth of accessories, then I got a $200 gift card in the mail.

Nothing to lose by trying it. But many people report dealers will give a better price than Costco if you continue to negotiate.
