As stated they are just coolers not refrigerators. They do just that; keep things cool. We keep one in the truck when we travel so we don't have to stop when the DW wants some cool water to drink.

It seems to draw a lot of juice because unless it's plugged into the cigarette lighter it will blow the truck fuse.

Its just a thermoelectric cooler. Not very effective or efficient.

If you want a truly portable cooler replacement look at the portable fridge freezers. These are compressor based and can get below 0 to function as a freezer while using less power than a thermoelectric thing.

Truckfridge.com sells a rebranded Indel B at a very good price.

Yes, if it sits in the car with the window closed on a hot day I imagine it might not be too effective.

The thing I didn't like was you really cannot (should not) put ice in them. Ice packs sure, but if I planned that far ahead the beer would be cold already ;)

So with ice packs it will keep things cool like a regular cooler I assume. You are talking about after it is unplugged? I can see cooling it before hand, getting in the truck and driving with it on. Then taking it out to fish some, return and turn it back on. How would it work in this scenario.

We usually boondock more than anything, but our fridge is small in the TT so when at hookups it would be nice.

I have already thought of some hilarious scenario's, with a generator.

They do not cool that great, only 40°or 45° below ambient temp. On a 90° day that is 45° to 50°. A reg refridgerator is usually 40° or a little lower.:(

I've had two different types. Got rid of both. Setting my beer in the lake was more effective. They just don't get cold enough, fast enough, and can't compete with the sun.

I have a few of these and one came with an ice cube tray, very tiny ice cube tray. put the tray on the bottom, cover it with a supplied insulated cover and sure enough it did freeze the cubes. about enough for one drink. ;)

These things can draw some power. See if the power draw is marked on it. Great while driving, but if you're going to park and fish for a day you could come back to a depleted car battery.
We've had a few varieties of these in all sizes. Was never overly impressed with them in either negative or positive ways.
