Counter weight for added back storage area/deck

We recently purchased this travel trailer, that had this back storage area on it. We use it to carry firewood and misc things.. My husband was changing the tires and laying underneath the trailer ...

Yes, we are at least much heavier than we want to be. We would like to take the weight out - but it just made me nervous that we might be jumping the gun.

I can't imagine needing that much weight to counter that box. Does anyone else have something similar that they counter weight? or not?
