Counter weight for added back storage area/deck

Looking at the size of the platform I'm not surprised it would take 600lbs of ballast to balance that load. It appears to be a steel frame covered with diamond plate and there's room there for a lot of weight to be loaded. Depending on how close you are to the capacity of your TV the cement and platform may both be a bad idea (as convenient as that extra storage is).
