Many think that a smaller truck is not capable of towing anything larger than a popup. The GM Colorado/Canyon twins, with the Duramax diesel, would be a perfect match for the trailers you list.
A crew cab short box at 213" would easily fit in your garage. The turbo'd Duramax would not lose power at altitude, has an exhaust brake to help down the mountains, is rated to tow 7000+lbs, and will give you nearly 30mpg while not towing. It's worth a serious look.
