On the upper east coast they salt the roads like mad. Everything rusts. I think I even plastic and glass.
You can't expect anything steel to survive that. You need stainless or aluminum, or expect rust.
I don't think there's anything the manufacturer could have done - except make them from aluminum, and they have apparently answered your needs.
I wouldn't warranty something made of steel that someone put under a truck in New Jersey for ten years either... not trying to be rude, that's just the nature of steel and salt.
