My lower stable loads looked like (rap after only one Iowa winter in which the truck was not driven much at all. I removed them a few weeks ago, disassembled and wire brushed them (The P-Coating mostly just fell off!), primed and repainted them w/rustoleum. They will not be reinstalled until spring and will be removed each fall after the TC is off loaded for winter storage. IMHO this so-called powder-coating is a joke.
I owned 6 class eight rigs since 1982, the last being a 2005 KW that set me back around 130K. The 1st 2 were used, although refurbished w/mew paint, and the last 4 were purchased new. EVERY ONE was in need of total restoration in the frame paint dept after only 2 winters or so. I blame improper surface prep when new. Granted, each saw far more use in one winter than most trucks hauling TC's would see in many years.
The brine that is used on the winter roads is highly corrosive. My son works for the DOT and they are constantly fighting this problem with their/our own equipment as well. Just something we have to live with, either that, or move to the Sunshine State I guess.
