When I bought my superhitch on CL it had the extensions from the hitch but nothing else so I just bought some 1.5" x 1.5" square steel pipe and made my own.
They just started introducing salt on our Portland roads but on a limited testing basis.
I'd have to agree about maintenance having towed boats to the salt for decades, really hard on painted metal, rusts out just before the paint starts to fall off...
