In my younger days, my dad had a Harley 1200 and my mom rode with him. I had a Honda 750 and wasn't married yet (still in college). Our neighbors (husband and wife) had a Honda 1000. Together we would tour around together, mostly week-ends, going places, just for the drive.
Once we decided to travel form (North) of Indianapolis, IN to Cumberland Gap, TN via motorcycles. We did not have a tent. We used sleeping bags, lined up all 3 motorcycles into a U shape, and we threw a sheet of plastic (like a tarp) over the top of all 3 motorcycles and let it drape down the front. We put all our sleeping bags under the plastic in a row and that's where we slept. We did this several nights. We did it again for a trip from Central Indiana, up to Michigan, crossed over into Canada, drove around Lake Erie (on the Canada side), crossed back over at Niagara Falls, and then headed back home. Yes, we were still making this configuration for sleeping quarters ever night.
So you know??? after that experience, fast forward 40 years later ... absolutely EVERYTHING about my current Outback TT and Chevy diesel duly 3500 truck, long bed, crew cab, is a "creature comfort!"
