hey all, sorry for the thread resurrection. VERY LONG WORDY UPDATE:
OP here again. Still shopping since I don't aim to buy till summer. I waffle a lot on this, I realize that the models discussed earlier in the thread would be pretty safe and appropriate for my vehicle, but am really hoping to get two things I can't get with those: a dry bath (does not need to have its own sink), and a real awning. I can't find much in the aerodynamic style that fits those things but I did find that both an R-pod 180
LINKand a Minnie Drop 170S
LINKmeet the requirements, but are both on the heavy side, probably just barely under 3K empty. They do, however, have a pretty aerodynamic shape. the body of the trailer is 6.5' wide with the wheels outside of it adding the extra 1.5' to make them 8'. Would this add stability? they also look to be on the longer side, and have limited storage. awnings available but sometimes add cost and aren't always simple power ones.
Here's the non-aerodynamic ones I'm considering. Both are 7' wide and on the shorter side heightwise. The first is VERY lightweight and I believe I could pull this pretty easily, though I worry about the low CCC and maybe quality of this trailer? It is on the simple side, a campsite with walls basically. KZ Sportsmen Classic 130RB
LINKAnd here is the trailer I just can't get out of my head, and I keep running in circles justifying if I can safely and somewhat comfortably tow this on longer trips. I found a couple videos showing the actual factory weighed UVW as 29XX. GVW is 3800. I am unlikely to fill it to that, but would obviously plan for that being possible. I believe I'm more likely to be around 3500 loaded. Again, my vehicle has 1584 of payload, it's just me and a few medium sized dogs and our gear, so the tongue weight restriction of 500 from Chevy's towing guide is probably still the limiting factor from a pure numbers standpoint. I guess I"m just wondering if others with unibody SUV's with 5000 limits have felt comfortable and safe towing a 3500lb trailer down the road. I am on the east coast and will tow over some hills but no Rocky Mountain stuff here. I WILL be boondocking quite a bit so this trailer is very attractive for that and the open space under the bed which i can utilize for dog crates or supplies (assuming tongue weight stays balanced).
Coachmen Apex Tera 16T:
LINKIt's only 7' wide, not too tall, and looks pretty well balanced using my "professional" method of eyeballing it LOL What says the forum? Ridiculous idea? should be ok?
