Crossroads Zinger ZT31SB or ZT33BH... any opinions?

We are considering both the ZT31SB and the ZT33BH from Crossroads. The layouts are fairly different, and there are pros and cons to each model.

Has anyone had either of these, specifically the 33BH, since it has such a different layout (kitchen island, for one thing, 3 slides for another), and would have any input for us?

Thanks!

For those of you who would like more detail, here are the advantages as I see them of the 31' over the 33':
-table seating is U-shaped - therefore more elbow room
-grill provided on back bumper (but then can we install our bike rack?)
-slightly more outside/underneath storage, accessible from both sides (the 33' is accessible from only 1 side and doesn't go all the way through as the hot water heater is on the driver side - not sure I could reach everything)
-for some reason, seems "homier" inside
-$2,000 cheaper.

My view of advantages of the 33' over the 31':
-bathroom located by master bedroom with entry from there - handy for middle of the night
-kitchen storage - seems to be better and more storage in the kitchen
-table is sturdier (but seating on just 2 sides, less elbow room)
-island with sink and counter space and storage space seems really handy
-shower is hard doors i.e. shower curtain won't keep touching you, seems roomier, although I haven't had this kind of shower yet
-80 gal grey water tank (twice the size of the 31')

Forgot to check:
-is one cupboard over the couch deeper than the other - it almost seemed like it as I think back
-were the stoves fairly equal

Thanks!

  • My zinger 26BL has a similar living area layout to the 31SB (you can look at the floorplans to understand what I am talking about.) Something I have found is that when watching TV, the TV is in an awkward spot for the sofa. DH ends up stretching out on the sofa to see it comfortably and I end up in the far corner of the dinnette or I collapse the dinnette into the bed for more comfort. DD will cuddle w/ one of us for the movie. The location of the TV in the 33Bh appears to make more sense to me but it can't be seen from in the bedroom... I do like being able to have 1 TV that does double duty in the living area and bedroom w/ the flip around entertainment center. The U dinette is nice as it seats more people than the other style. I have been looking at 5ers w/ islands simply because I want more counter space than my little L shaped kitchen gives. The 33BH gives you a bigger bathroom and a walk around bed. My question would be what about storage? One huge difference is the gray tank. The 33BH can handle twice as much gray water as the 31SB.

I would go sit in both trailers and act out your daily activities (kids play, DH walks around to bathroom, sits to watch TV, DW pretends to cook). Next think about where you will put everything (ie moms clothes in that cabinet, dishes in this cabinet, kids toys in that drawer etc). This will help you. If you are still stuck, a spreadsheet w/ pros and cons and what is important to you can help you to figure things out. Also come on over and check out the crossroads owners forums for additional insight into these trailers.

I do love my zinger we are just getting the itch for a 5er. Crossroads has taken good care of my minor warranty issues I have had with the TT. I just came out of warranty in Jan though. I had the 2 yr limited warranty. You will get the new 1 year warranty plus 12 point promise that crossroads is now offering on units built after 9/1/2012.

ps one last thing to look at is what you are towing with, those are both heavy trailers but the 33 is heavier than the 31.

I shopped the Zinger 33BH and the Jayco version the 334RBTS. The layout is open and doesn't feel cluttered like other bunk models that attempt to stuff a residential kitchen into a 10' area. I like the counter space as we have kids who bring friends (read: need lots of food prep and serving area!).

On a side note, the Zinger was a close 2nd. For nearly the same price of the Zinger we got the Jayco Eagle, so at least take a look at them.

Thanks! I took a look online - our local dealer doesn't carry Jayco and they don't show any used Jayco 334RBTS trailers in stock right now. Appreciate the heads-up - if they get one in before we purchase, we will have to check them out. The counter space in that is amazing, with the island being ALL counter! In the Zinger ZT33BH, there is a double sink in the island, so it isn't quite as much counter space as in the Jayco.

I've never seen either, just looking at the website. I think the 31 seems homier because it's not as open as the 33. The 33 has a lot of empty floor space. You'll just have to go with what ever feels right.

Thanks, good point. My son says the 31 feels more "right", and I wonder if that is in part simply because the 33 is a more "foreign" layout and that we would get used to it in time and then it would feel like home.

I think another visit to the campers is in order! Maybe bring some food, a book to read, hang out for a few hours.... ;)

My 2 cents I like the 31. The 33 is nice but I like the door in the bathroom, I do not like slides into the living area under the awning and my son likes the bathroom closer to him and that is fine with me.

This is why I wanted to ask - I hadn't thought about the slide-out for the stove etc intruding on our living space under the awning. We do use our awning space a LOT. Will have to consider that, thank you!
