Bosch specified 2~3 micron but Dodge/Ram didn't want to spend the extra money on it.
They knew they didn't need to,, neither do I.
They didn't care because by the time the damage was done, they didn't have to pay for it.
The results of those using the poorer filters are well known in forums like the TDR where new guys are constantly asking about related failures. I've never heard of anyone suggesting that Bosch was wrong and the average life span of injectors have been proof.
That's why newer trucks with their longer warrantys finally have proper filtering.
Bosch knows better than anyone what the filtering and fuel requirements are for their very sophisticated components.
