Spend the money and get the T stat and o rings/gaskets from Cummins. They are expensive but worth it! They will need your engine number.
I bought a Gates belt from Geno's Garage. Had planned on getting the hoses and T-stat from them as well. Why would Cummins or anybody need the engine number for the T-stat? Geno's has the thermostat with seals for $16.95. It looks just like pictures I've seen of an OEM thermostat. While I don't want to go cheap, I hate going to the stealer.
The two thermostats are slightly different. The Dodge unit appears to be the Cummins unit +$15. Cummins will want the engine number. While usually not a big deal for Dodge Cummins. Cummins engines are in many applications. Commercial, automotive and marine variations. Marine applications typically have unlimited cold water available.
