The 7.3's had a factory option call charge protector or battery saver I forget exactly what it was called. Anyway you could set the idle up to 1300 RPM's. I would be nice to do that on a hot day while letting the AC run when sitting in a parking lot while DW runs into the store. Mine also on a cool day went to 1000 RPM's on a cool day and as soon as you touched the brake it goes back to normal. The glow plugs stay on in the 7.3 for two minutes. Plugging it in on a cold day gives me instant heat which is very nice especially if there is frost on the windshield
