Cummins Onan generator exhaust modification

Just installed a cummins generator muffler to quiet it down a little bit and I was quite surprised with the result. From 78 dB to 76 dB. (IPhone app). The following video was recorded with my iPhone so it does not really reflect the real difference in sound levels

Before

after

  • thanks for including the youtube links! I agree - noticable improvement! I hate the noise of my Onan 2800 - might be worthwhile...! ST
  • Thanks, for insulation any suggestions ?
After 10 hrs of run time I have switched to synthetic but the exhaust was so loud I didn't notice any difference.
Now all I ears is the cooling turbine and some mechanical noise. :)
  • Anything is better than nothing. :)

Btw, all that I've read says the majority of the noise is mechanical for our propane Onans. So, you can insulate the compartment to help, and I found switching to a good synthetic helps. It only takes about 1 quart, so it's an easy change.
