OP now tell the truth. Did you do that post just to get the blood pressure cranked up on the cummins crew? :B
LOL. Not my intention at all.
Like I said, I am VERY impressed with how the Cummins tows/brakes.
It would be a 'downgrade' to go back to a gasser, I know, but I have towed with gassers previously, so I know what I'm looking at performance-wise.
Have looked at the vertical kayak/bike racks. Problem is, I have more than two bikes, and they are not your garden variety. I've pretty much convinced myself that I will not have my pricey bikes bouncing around on the back of my 5th. There are only a handful of racks that are OK'd for such use, and they are only hold 2 bikes. I found a local rack company who build some really burly units, and when I asked if they were compatible they said "we've never heard of any issues, but we will not warranty it if used that way." Fair enough.
I have looked into the over-cab rack ideas (Yakima/Thule) in addition to adding a front receiver etc. Probably my best route at this time.
The reason I was contemplating the dually was that there are racks that mount to the front part of the bedrails and give you a solid over-cab rack that can be used for all sorts of things in one nice clean looking unit.
Like this:
USrackWith the long-box there would be no cab/front cap interference issues. I'm afraid my shortbox would not be compatible.
I was hoping to find a similar longbox Cummins to trade for, but the dealers are all geared for a deal that benefits them naturally.
That's why when I stumbled across the gasser I thought, "Aha...I should be able to make this work to my benefit."
Anyways, I appreciate everybody's candid responses.....nobody actually typed "Don't be a moron" even though they most likely were thinking it. :)
I'm in no rush to do anything rash, so thanks again.
