One more before the axe. I went from my sixth diesel, a Cummins powered 2500HD Ram to a 5.7L Hemi powered duplicate truck. Then to a lowly 5.4L F250. I've never regretted the return to gas.
I'm not so sure that the OP would be as happy going to back to gas when pulling the mountain passes here in Coastal BC.
Definitely something to consider. I wouldn't want to tow over 6k in the western mountains with my current truck. Around the southeast, 9k works well.
So you are making a statement on gas being OK, on an apples to oranges comparison not fair to the OP! The OP lives in the PSW of Canada, there is no flat land or very little of it. I once looked up the highest point in Florida seems it was about 300’ somewhere in the Northern edge of the panhandle!
Will the Hemi do the job, well yes, but much higher revs, and fewer mpg, or kilometers per liter. Hannibal, if you think fuel is costly in Florida, travel to Canada sometime.
On Edit: Hannibal, your Jayco has a dry weight of 6,405# and a GVWR of 8,750# not exactly a heavy load to be pulled.
When I traded my 03 Cummins Ram for the 05 5.7L Hemi Ram duplicate truck otherwise, we owned a 10,400 lb weighed weight high profile 5th wheel. What makes you think we're restricted to Florida? 30% higher rpm and about 30% more fuel.
Hannibal, I still don't think yours is a fair comparison. If I remember correctly, your 03 CTD didn't have the high output engine. Which means by going from the CTD to Hemi, you only gave up around 100 lb/ft of torque, and probably gained around 100 HP.
If the OP has the standard output Cummins, he will be giving up around 400 lb/ft of torque and gaining less than 70 HP.
