No need for a diesel, other than 2-4 days a year when the RV was actually hitched behind the truck. The other 360 days a year, the Hemi was the better choice for me. I'll trade the inferior towing performance offered by the Hemi (its a fact) to get heat in winter, cheaper oil changes, save 10k on the initial price, and not have to deal with the potential DPF/EGR/DEF issues.
Too many people fail to use logic like this. I am 37 years old, married with 2 kids and a full time job. I camp 45-55 days a year total. That's about 9 trips or so every year, or towing 18 times per year, on average. I tow a 9500 lbs GVWR trailer.
While the Cummins is clearly a superior engine for towing, I was looking for a new Ram 6.4 or Ford 6.2 gas engine... because I don't NEED the diesel. I happened to stumble into this truck, used with 10K miles, for cheaper than a new gas rig. Cummins is way better for towing... but completely unnecessary for my needs. Luckily I have a company vehicle and don't daily drive my diesel. I have zero need for the diesel and don't expect to ever tow heavy enough (or in mountains enough) to justify owning a diesel truck. All that being said, I'll probably replace this truck with another diesel in 9 years when I go to upgrade this one.
Exactly the same reason I have a 2009 F350 with the V10. I'm 33 married with one kiddo and another on the way, working way to many hours. My truck gets used for maybe 10 trips a year which falls into a three month period, then it sits.
