I don't think any right thinking citizen wants their government to abandon it's current services or future services just because it is an increase in tax. There is a lot of knee-jerk sentiment when regulation or licensing is mentioned. I don't think we can afford to abandon most of it just due to cost. I'd be ready to put up my fair share of an increase so that Mr. John D. Escalade takes a short written test to show qualification when towing trailers at greater than 3K lbs. It is more of an education or awareness thing than actually mandating proficiency.
I can't comment on the interaction with Mr. Escalade. I wasn't there so don't have a feel at all for what was happening. I have remarked to other towers when I see they are going to have a problem.
One of my neighbors bought a trailer that was +30' and planned to haul it with his Durango. I questioned the combination with him but was told that the Durango was a V8 and had plenty of HP. I left it with, "it's not all about HP". On his first trip of 80 miles he lost control of the trailer and ended up in the Interstate median, probably with a body part at full pucker. He has replaced the Durango with a Dodge 3500.
