We wouldn't ever buy a truck camper (had 7 of them and on our 8th now since 1965) or any other RV (had over 16 of them since 1969 and have 2 presently) that has scissor steps for entry. Especially not aluminum ones as they are even more flimsey and flexing. RV's are bad enough and dangerous enough with welded steel steps. One of many of the reasons our last 3 TC's have been Lances with non-slip bumpers and non-slip very sturdy steps. Below the bottom step we have the 22" X 92" or rhe 22" by 74" welded porch I made with a pressure treated plywood top that's outdoor carpeted so it's non-slip also. The porches have one 21" wide X 10" depth outdoor carpeted flip over step to get to the ground.
My wife is disabled now but it wasn't from falling off scissor steps but I can assure that she would even with the big folding handle on the back of the TC and on the 5th wheel and out TT. She thought the TC porches were wonderful before she was disabled and now she won't even go anywhere without one of them on. All it takes is on fall to sober/wake a person up and we've seen it many times in campgrounds alone. We even had the dismal honor of transporting one 46 yr old lady who fell off her TC's scissor steps to the hospital with a broken ankle and you could see the bone end trying to break thru the skin. Very sickening! Won't ever forget the pain she was in or the many months and operations she had healing and she still limps today as we have kept in contact. What made matters worse is that she and her about 11 yr older hubby were on their first camping trip since his heart attack and bypass and he was so rattled and shookup and red in the face from her yelling and crying from the pain that we were afraid we'd soon have 2 victims. Yes, they sold the TC and now have a small TT and NO scissors steps!
Many memebers on this forum have seen our porch setups in person or seen pictures of them. I do not sell them or anything of the sort but I have helped many others over the last approx 14 years to make or have made for them a very strong safe porch to fit their individual needs.
We've towed a 2150 lb boat or our 6' X 12' X 6' high 3500 lb vee nosed enclosed trailer ten of thousands of miles attached to the ball on the back of our porches without a single problem.
