Bill, I'm assuming you mean an accidently run down battery and not a battery that is simply 'bad' . If thats the case, yes your idea will work in an emergency, if you dont want to carry a separate battery charger and you have time to do this. Just make sure you have a good set of H.D.cables to make the run. However, i think it might take a bit of time.
If you need to get going and dont want to wait as long , here is an idea that im just throwing out there:
I have used deep cycle batteries to start a vehicle in an emergency.
It worked like one of those portable 12v jump start thingies.Looks like one of these
The problem is,with some of them, they are not powerful enough to wake up a very dead battery. You have to by-pass the dead battery, which i saw someone do some time ago.
IM not a mechanic, if anyone has experience with 12 v.electrical and thinks this will not work, please correct me .
So you won't have to wait till the dead battery chargers through the converter , I would try this :
Remove the positive lead off the dead truck battery. (You'll be bypassing the dead battery now)
Hook-up the jumper cables from the good camper battery (which is now acting like a jump start thingy) to the pos. wire that you just took off the dead battery and hook-up the neg. as well to complete the circuit.
The camper batt. should start the truck even though its an rv deep cycle, that i have done, it had enough cranking amps. All you would have to do now is, reinstall the trucks positive lead back onto the dead battery without breaking electrical contact (keep the jumper cable on the pos lead while reinstalling it ,then you can remove it once you have clamped it back onto the post). Being that the truck is now running, the alternator should take over charging for you and you won't have to wait for the converter to do it .
What do guys think , will it work ?
Will it save time waiting for the converter to do the charging to start the truck ? I realize the alternator will have to charge it, but at least now the truck can be operated while its doing that.

Bob...that is exactly what I am thinking...I have one of those "jump start thingies"...but who wants to carry that around in a TC if you already have a genny with you?
I thought some more about it...issue I see now is jumper cable will not reach truck batterY from house batterieS...it is probaly 20'.
I think I'll just get the wimpy 8 amp cord from Honda...$13 on fleabay...
