I will make another vote for a Nova Kool. In any case consider the options before you switch to a compressor fridge. First absorption fridges use very little propane so if yours is using a lot something is wrong. Second a compressor fridge needs lots of electricity. You need a big battery pack and plenty of solar. Of course you also need plenty of sunlight to fuel the solar. For a small 4 cu ft model, I use 300 AH of AGM batteries and 275 watts of solar. I also have a 2000 watt generator to handle cloudy or shaded campsites. Don't skimp on the batteries or solar if you decide on a compressor fridge. My little Nova Kool will use about 30 AH on moderately warm days, say 60 at night and 70 or so in the day. The electricity can easily double in 80 degree temps. By 85-90, the unit will operate continuously consuming 75+ AH/day. Please also consider the solar needs based on the time of year. Solar yields drop considerably in Fall-Winter-Spring time periods.
