In addition to what has been said, another way to collect the antifreeze is to drain it through the low point drains before connecting to water, this will drain/collect most before adding water to the system. Then move on to flush and sanitize the system.

One way or another be sure to open the low point drains when there is water in the system to replace the antifreeze in that part of the line with water. If you leave antifreeze there it can have an effect on the water for awhile.

unless you plan on using it ASAP.

Figure out where your hot water heater bypass valves are. Once you get the antifreeze pumped out of the plumbing, turn the bypass valves back so that the water is again circulating through the hot water heater tank.

I do not plan to de winterize until it warm up , however what i am looking to do is learn how to de winterize without screwing something up.

I think everyone who has commented on this thread understands that, it's just that his/her comments of "never winterizing" combined with wanting to dewinterize the TT he/she just purchased has set off some alarm bells with people here, and rightfully so.

Just to clarify, people are suggesting that he/she NOT dewinterize right now as it's only the last week of February and his/her home state of NC is not immune to being very cold still at this time of the year. (heck, I don't dewinterize until early May here in NW Ohio).

On top of that, he/she should be winterizing from here on out.

I don't think there is anywhere in NC that I would not winterize. The southeast beach areas are probably the warmest area of the state, and they can get well below freezing at times.

I wouldn't take that chance when winterizing is so easy and cheap to do. JMHO.

Absolutely do not open the valves to the hot water tank until all traces of antifreeze have disappeared from your taps. You should collect the antifreeze from the taps until it starts to look watery when flushing and save it for putting into your black tank and grey tank next time you need to winterize. It is just slightly diluted and still very useful. Mark the containers as diluted though.

Once you have put water through the street connection and drained the system, put some water into the fresh tank and run the pump so antifreeze goes out of there too. You must remember to do each water outlet and do it with the cold tap separate from the hot tap and not both together.

When you cannot taste antifreeze in the tap water, then take the hot water tank off bypass and let some water into the hot tank and let it run out the drain for a few gallons. Then fill the tank and run some water through the tank and out a hot tap.

There is lots to learn, and lots of mistakes to be made. My worst was pouring antifreeze into the hot water tank and out onto the ground out the open plug because of a stuck open hot line check valve, and the next was pressing the check valve head on the street water hose inlet while the system was pressurized. That buggered the check valve and sprayed all over the place too.

Where are you in North Carolina? With the current weather you should learn how to winterize... Here in Charlotte last night's low was 5 degrees! Danged global warming! Unless you are leaving immediately for Mexico I'd wait a few more weeks to dewinterize! Miami was at 40? Two nights ago.
