It is always better to recharge a depleted lead-acid battery as soon as possible. If an owner can charge the batteries and maintain a float voltage until the batteries are next used, that is the best scenario. A discharged battery is sulfating until it is charged or when charge current is removed. If the battery is stored with a full charge, there will be less sulfation as the electrolyte is in a state to move ions back into suspension. Typically, flooded lead-acid batteries will maintain most of it's full charge for a couple of months if there is no draw on the battery. AGM batteries are even better than this as they discharge less during storage.
