I may not own a Duramax, but here's the universal rule to consumption. DEF consumption is pretty much tied to fuel consumption. You will be somewhere between 1 and 3% of fuel burn (depending on manufacturer). So for every 100 gallons of diesel you burn, you will burn 1 to 3 gallons of DEF (personally, I'm averaging 1.35% of fuel burn in my DEF consumption). Pretty easy formula.
Also, DEF can have a short life. The only people that really have to worry about it are those that live in places such as Arizona. As constant temps over 95+ degrees cut the shelf life down to about 6 months at worst. constant temps over 85 is 1 year. Constant temps over 77 is 18 months, constant temps over 50 is 3 years. So use your yearly average temp for your place of residence and you'll know how long your DEF can last you.
and I pay about $2.80 a gallon for DEF. I buy from a truck stop and I also fill a spare container so I always have some at home. at $2.80 a gallon, that adds less than a nickel to the price per gallon of diesel.
