DEF Gauge

I took my 2014 Silverado 2500 in for service. When I arrived at the dealer the DEF gauge read 29%. After the service it still read 29%. The service advisor said to drive it a few miles and it will reset. I thought it was odd, but went ahead with it. I assumed they hadn't put any DEF during the service, although it was on the invoice.

I returned two days later when the gauge read 27%. The service advisor said they had to reset the gauge. When I left the gauge read ok.

I did a quick search and found numerous posts related to this issue during cold weather only. Has anyone else experienced this issue in 85 degree weather?

  • I know that on Ram trucks the DEF gauge isn't a conventional float because of the freezing temp of DEF. They use a set of sensors at various levels, and computer interpolation when it's between sensors.

I'd expect that there is a similar setup in the Silverado.
