I am reviving this thread because I just refilled my DEF after getting the message that it was down to 1/2 full. It's a 5 gallon tank.
I refilled by adding a 2.5 gallon jug (Walmart). I could only get about 90% of it in just after the message came on, so I drove another 3-400 miles and then was able to add the remainder.
I ended up driving right at 5,000 miles and using 2 1/2 gallons, so that's 2000 mpg. I figure that maybe 40% of that mileage was towing.
Just posting this so anyone who is contemplating buying a new DEF truck won't be concerned about how long the DEF tank lasts.
