When I went to a dealership there were three year end closeouts on crew cab cummins "work trucks" which didn't have a bunch of bells and whistles for $39K. Right now it's hard to find a used hemi for less than the low $30s with 50,000 miles. I've never bought a new truck but the math seems to support it.
Yeah I'm looking to buy a Tradesman level 2500 CTD and I think I Can get one for around $36-37k. I can get used for less but to get under $30k I'm adding several years and maybe 50k miles. The extra $6-7k up front to get new seems worth it to get a full warranty and save a few years of wear and tear.
Now with a travel trailer I can't imagine buying new - the price difference between used and new is substantial, and it isn't that hard to find a trailer that's 10 years old yet very lightly used.
I think in Alberta new vehicles are about 25% more than in the USA but on the used market, our vehicles are often cheaper than across the line. So an American might expect his truck to depreciate about 10% per year where as Albertans will see their pickups depreciate about 17% per year.
