One word of advise .... make sure you have all receipts for EVERY purchase in parts and keep them stowed away in a safe place.
In Indiana, to avoid paying sales tax when licensing and registering a home-made vehicle / trailer / whatever ... you have to produce the receipts that shows you paid sales tax on every item that went into the final product. When you produce this information, you don't pay sales tax (a second time them).
Several years ago a friend built me a utility trailer. It was 100% home made. He made no profit at all, none. When I went to register the trailer for plates, I had to pay the sales tax, or produce the receipts. He did not keep the receipts. He had to sign a document stating what it cost him, what he sold it for, and then I still had to pay sales tax. We were both pi$$ED at the whole system. So ... keep those receipts ... all of them!
