I don't need any more info. I'll tell you right here and now I don't care what you towed, it DID NOT cause a cam lifter problem.
5.3's are known for these problems.
Fix the thing and move on. Whether that means moving up or driving what your have. I recommend you get aftermarket parts though.
I have to agree with you. Unless I'm wrong they use a plastic guide to keep the lifters in place. My understanding is this breaks causing lifter problems. It allows the roller lifter to turn witch takes out the camshaft. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Was talking to my mechanic about Ford's cam phaser problem when he was telling me he had fixed a lot of Chevy's with this cam problems as well.
