It was a 6.0 Diesel. I didn't mention it because the last time I was on a thread here and said something one poster launched into a long personal attack calling me an idiot for buying it.
Figured it was but wanted to confirm. Being the bastard child of diesel engines even in stock form those things blew head gaskets all the time. Not sure you can blame it solely on tuning with the track record that motor has. I wont call you an idiot:) but bet you would never buy another one right.
I love the truck, but the 6.0 engine sucks. It might be awhile before I buy another Ford product - if ever. I've owned 6 Ford trucks over the last 40 years and have had good luck with them. This one was the exception and the dealer support really turned me off on them. I've had several issues where they've charged me for work that I didn't ask for and it cost me several thousand dollars.
Hopefully the $8000 I spent to "bulletproof" the top of the engine will result in a more reliable truck. I'm retiring in two years and I'm counting on the truck to tow my fifth wheel from Florida to Alaska and back. It has 120,000 miles on it and should be good for at least 150,000 more.
