You were not an idiot for buying a 6.0 PowerStroke. Properly maintained it is a good engine. Put a tuner on it without beefing up the heads with studs and putting in a "bulletproof" oil and EGR cooler and they will grenade in a heart beat.
The only reason I am not driving a 6.0 now is my truck was sideswiped on a mountain road and had the axle ripped out from under it and in the process pretzeled the frame. I now have a 6.4 PowerStroke with nearly 225,ooo miles. Bone stock, no tuner or chip.
Put a tune on a 6.7 cummins and watch your headgasket and 68re transmission grenade.....
As for the Duramax they're pretty good with tuners, but the transmission will the the weak link.
If your truck is running good like it sounds like I would leave it alone.
