It's nothing to get 250k miles out of a modern gas engine and by then the rest of the truck is typically falling apart. I would agree with this as well, especially as it pertains to the light duty consumer diesel engines. Any gas engine should make it to 250k miles, and beyond there, only a very small percent of people will even care.
I have 3 relatives who drive an awful lot, and they've gone thru numerous VW Jetta diesels in the past 15 years. They don't seem to be getting much more miles out of their small diesels than one would expect from a small gasser -- 250-300k miles and the engines are about done.
