I was at the dealer and was looking at the hitches on 13' 2500s. Some had TW rating of 1500lbs and some had a rating of 2000lbs. At first I thought there were some SRW 3500s mixed in but I double checked and they were 2500s. Almost all the window stickers were falling down in the window so it was difficult to compare trucks. Can anyone explain the reason for 2 different hitch ratings. The hitch itself looks identical.

Interesting...maybe the 2K hitch trucks were models equipped with some kind of optional extra heavy duty towing package.??Did you ask?

In the past they only rated the hitch for what the rig was rated for. Size of running gear and extra tow packages are most likely the reasons.

Mystery solved. Long bed 2500HD's are rated at 2,000 pounds weight carrying, Standard bed models are rated at 1,500 pounds, per the owner's manual. Weight distributing is optional for all 2500's and 3500's

He was on a dealers lot, not checking out his own truck. You just got lucky that he's a diehard Chevy owner. It seems that those two classifications of recievers would be pretty common.

How do you know that, when the OP never stated the truck brand?
