Different Sizes Tires

I currently have 235/80/17 tires on my Dodge Dually. Now I have a chance to pick up some used 245/70/17 tires really cheap. They are the same brand as I currently have. How much of a difference do you think it will make.I think the tires are 1 1/2 inches shorter than my current tires.I guess I could use them on the front where size doesn't affect power, speedo etc.

Thanks

Fred

  • Spacing between the duals is necessary for proper cooling. I would be concerned with them being closer together.
  • Check out this link.

The diameter of the new tires are 1.3" smaller and the circumference is 4.1" less. Your speedo will be off by 4.1% uncorrected, meaning that at 60mph you will read 57.5mph

Not a huge deal, and there are computers that can correct this, but you will need to replace all the tires for the sake of the 4 wheel drive and the ABS systems.
  • As long as it is not a 4x4 I think you should be ok. Hopefully somebody corrects me if I am wrong.
