Depending on what AC unit is installed, the change out may or may not be "straight forward". First, you need to look at how many wires have been run to the existing thermostat (likely 2 ... hopefully at least 4). Next, since AC involves switching 120 volts as opposed the 12v in a furnace, the control boards included with the ac need to be the "right ones" for "offboard control"... it is likely that your current ac unit has "front panel controls" which usually DO NOT have the "needed" interface.
