Sounds like you have figured it out but I have another thing to consider.
How long would you have to work to pay off half of one of those trailers you looked at? Make that your minimum self commitment. That way if in a couple of months you don't like it, you can sell the trailer on the cheap without really losing money. The rest of your expanses would be just be considered camping expense.
